Opening Doors: A personal and professional journey

The Apprentice Train the Trainers Program

This training program is designed for organizations that are committed to building internal capacity to facilitate Opening Doors workshops within their own system.

The Opening Doors Diversity Project mentors and master trainers are skilled and experienced in supporting the implementation of this model.  Apprentices engage in reflective reading and journaling, and have individualized mentoring sessions.  They learn through co-facilitating Opening Doors workshops, taking on increasingly larger pieces and responsibilities over time.

A critical element of this approach is the requirement that apprentices engage in personal movement connected to their own identities. This process varies in duration based on the organization and the apprentice’s ability to allocate time and resources to the learning process.

The Opening Doors Program was selected as a model for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) due in great part to how well it addresses the construct of oppression theory and the subsequent cycle of oppression. The training… serves to best address the long-term systemic change process. Personally, I have found no better tool to accomplish this level of understanding on these issues than Opening Doors.
